I know we’re well into 2024, but I hope you managed to have a good break at some point over these last few months and are recharged for the year ahead.
The start of a new year is a busy and exciting time with both new learners and new kaimahi starting in kura | schools, and ECE centres. It’s been a very busy period for us here at the Teaching Council also.
Over the past few months, we’ve welcomed many new teachers to the profession. If you’re a new teacher and this is the first newsletter you’ve received from the Teaching Council, I’d like to welcome you to the profession and wish you all the best in your career as a kaiako | teacher.
With beginning kaiako | teachers in mind, we are also piloting a new initiative aimed at welcoming new kaiako | teachers to the profession with a ‘welcome pack’ that provides some useful support and resources for new graduates starting out in their teaching careers.
We have an exciting year ahead with a renewed focus on building partnerships and pathways. This month, the Teaching Council met with Te Akatea, a Māori education leadership association to discuss how we can progress the partnership that we developed last year to increase the rangatiratanga of iwi Māori in our space.
