The Teaching Council | Matatū Aotearoa is the professional body representing teachers in early childhood education, primary and secondary schooling.

What we do

We ensure quality teaching and high standards by registering teachers, setting and maintaining professional standards and ensuring teachers are competent and fit to practice.

Meet the Governing Council

The Teaching Council is governed by a Council made up of 13 Councillors: seven Councillors are elected by teachers and six are appointed by government.
