Thank you to everyone who provided feedback on the proposed fee and levy. We’re now able to share the decisions we have made after considering that feedback. 

The Council has decided to increase the cost of a three-year practising certificate to $464.37 with effect from Monday 11 July 2022, which is equivalent to $154.79 annually. Table 1 below shows the new cost for different certification types. Table 2 and Table 2.1 sets out the proposals we consulted on and the decisions we have made on those proposals.

We look forward to working together, giving effect to Our Code, Our Standards | Ngā Tikanga Matatika, Ngā Paerewa through quality teaching practice and learning for all tamariki and rangatahi.

Proactive release of papers

The 2021/22 consultation on the proposed fee and levy for teachers and holders of a Limited Authority to Teach, and final decisions about the amount that will be charged, has now finished. A range of papers associated with the consultation and the Teaching Council’s decision-making can be found in the link below.

A key reason for proactive release of papers is to assist those affected by proposed changes and the public to understand decisions and the decision-making process. It is in this spirit that the Council has decided to provide a proactive release of relevant papers.

Some information in the attached papers is not visible because it has been ‘redacted’. Any redactions are done in line with the provisions of the Official Information Act 1982

  • to protect the privacy of natural persons, s9(2)(a)
  • to protect information subject to an obligation of confidence, where it would be likely to prejudice the supply of similar information, or information from the same source and it is in the public interest that such information should continue to be supplied, s9(2)(ba)(1)
  • to maintain the effective conduct of public affairs through the free and frank expression of opinions of members in the course of their duty, s(9)(2)(g)(i)
  • to maintain legal professional privilege, s(9)(2)(h)

In these papers, most redactions are because the material is not related to the fees and levy issue (i.e., out of scope), to protect the names of private individuals, to allow the expression of free and frank advice, or because the content is covered by legal privilege.
