At what stage can teachers renew their practising certificate?
Teachers can renew their practising certificate up to three months before the expiry date. We encourage teachers to renew their practising certificate with plenty of time for the application process as well as the additional police vetting (up to 20 days) process.
Is Proof of Identity required?
Many teachers have already provided Proof of Identity with an application since the requirement came in on 1 July 2015. Teachers will not need to provide this again unless they have had a name change. However, Proof of Identity will need to be done for new teachers, new overseas trained teachers, new Limited Authority to Teach (LAT) holders, and teachers who have not renewed since 1 July 2015.
Can the application process be tracked online on Hapori Matatū?
Through Hapori Matatū teachers can track progress of their practising certificate application and see which stage it is at for example ‘Awaiting police vet response’.
Teachers can also ask Miromiro (our chatbot) about the status of their open application.
Professional leaders can see which applications are awaiting ‘ID Approvals’ or ‘Endorsement Approvals’.
How do teachers get their application endorsed?
First contact your professional leader and confirm they are the right person to complete your endorsement; ask them for their registration number and email address to ensure the endorsement request is sent to the right professional leader.
If an incorrect professional leader has been selected, you can change to the correct professional leader after you have submitted your application.
Once a teacher has completed their online application, the endorser will be contacted by email to progress with the endorsement process.
Please refer to our Endorser Guidelines to help with teacher endorsements.
Can I change the professional leader I submitted to endorse in my application once it has been completed?
Yes, if you entered in the wrong professional leader after you have completed your application, you can log back in and change to a different professional leader. Please refer to our Hapori Matatū User Guide for help on how to do this.
What is considered a conflict of interest when getting endorsed by a professional leader?
A relative or close friend cannot be your mentor or endorser. If your relative or close friend is responsible for your endorsement, your endorser will need to complete a Conflict of Interest form.
How does the extension to teach process work in Hapori Matatū?
