You will be able to select from internet banking using POLi, or credit/debit card (Visa or Mastercard only).
Why are cheques and cash no longer accepted?
Hapori Matatū is a fully automated online system so it makes sense to also move payment options online too.
Cheques are being phased out by banks, as most payment transactions are completed securely online.
At what stage in the application process in Hapori Matatū do I pay the fee and levy?
Payment is made once you have completed the application process. This is at the Finish and Pay stage. You will receive a tax invoice/receipt by email as confirmation of payment.
Are there options if I cannot afford to pay the fee and levy at the time of my application?
The Teaching Council is unable to offer financial services or loans.
Do you charge a late fee for practising certificate applications?
A late fee of $50 is charged in addition to the practising certificate fee and levy if:
- your renewal online application form is submitted after your practising certificate has expired; or
- you do not have a practising certificate or Limited Authority to Teach (LAT) and you are currently in a teaching position in New Zealand that requires one.
This is automatically added to your practising certificate fee and levy and you will not be able to submit your application until the full amount is paid.
Please note late fees are non-refundable and are not itemised on your tax invoice.
Will schools be able to submit bulk payment on behalf of teachers?
The Teaching Council can only accept individual payments via Hapori Matatū.
Will tax invoices be issued from Hapori Matatū?
Yes, once a teacher has completed the application and made payment online a tax invoice will be emailed.
If a teacher has not completed the application and paid online (i.e. their application remains in a draft state), the Council will not be able to progress or complete the application and a tax invoice will not be supplied. Teachers can view the status of their application online through to the approval stage.
Can I pay my fee and levy using a WINZ payment, or can WINZ pay on my behalf?
The Teaching Council no longer accepts payments from WINZ.
