In May Te Akatea Kāhui Kaikōtuitui (regional aka leaders) gathered at the Teaching Council offices in Te Whanganui a Tara. This roopu was formed based on feedback from the 2023 Te Akatea regional wānanga series.

The feedback indicated that our regional aka networks of Māori leaders needed to be strengthened. In this inaugural wānanga, the kāhui kaikōtuitui worked with leaders from the Teaching Council to gather perspectives on regional challenges and the success stories that our people are leading. We also formulated actions to contribute to the National Action Plan Against Racism through the second stage of Unteach Racism.
