How to log into My Rawa as a current teacher

Use this guide to find out how to log into our new portal, My Rawa, for the first time.

Steps to log in as a current teacher with a Hapori Matatū account

If you are a current teacher with an existing Hapori Matatū account, your first login will take a few extra steps as we activate your My Rawa account. When you are ready, follow the steps below to get set up so you can begin using the teacher portal | My Rawa.

1.To get started, click this link to activate your My Rawa account.

Enter your email, which is the email address you receive Teaching Council communications from.

2.Check your inbox for a personalised link to set your password.

Open it, follow the link, and set a new password. This step is only required the first time you log in.

3.Finally, go back to the website and click 'My Login' in the top right-hand corner of the site to access the portal.

Enter the username from your password-reset email and the new password you just set. Keep your username handy - you’ll need it every time you log in. From now on, this is how you will log in.

4.Start using My Rawa.

You’re ready to begin your professional tasks.

Steps to log in as a current teacher without a Hapori Matatū account

If you are a current teacher and do not have a Hapori Matatū account, your first login will take a few extra steps as we activate your My Rawa account. When you are ready, follow the steps below to get set up so you can begin using the teacher portal | My Rawa.

Set up your ESL login  

1.Go to the Teaching Council website and click 'My Login' 

2.In the pop up, select the link starting with 'Don’t have login details?' 

3.This link will take you to Hapori Matatū.  

4.Scroll down and select the tile named 'Starting to teach – Part one'. Leave your Hapori Matatū window open. 

5.This will open up page where you can create your Education Sector Login. Click 'Create new account'.

6.In the pop-up window, select 'Create new account' again.

7.Enter the required details to create your ESL. Then hit submit.   

8.A page will pop up with your details. Continue to activate your Teaching Council user account.

9.Go back to the Hapori Matatū landing page.  

10.Scroll down and select the tile named 'Starting to teach – Part two'.  

11.A pop up will appear. Select the 'ESL 2025' button.  

12.You’ll be taken back to the ESL login screen – enter your new ESL username and password and log in.  If you did not log out of ESL previously, you will not see this screen and be taken to the next step.

13.You will be sent to a landing page which prompts you to check your email.  

Create your My Rawa account  

14.Select the password reset link in your inbox. In the pop-up screen, enter your new password twice and click 'Change Password'

Note: The password will need to contain at least eight characters, including at least one number and one letter, and will need to be unique. If you have already used the password for logging into this site, it will not be accepted.  

15.Once you have set your password, go back to the main website.  

16.Then, click 'My Login' in the top right-hand corner of the site to access the portal.  

17.Start using My Rawa. Now that you have linked all the accounts, you will only need to log into My Rawa for professional tasks.  

Reset your password

Through Hapori Matatū

If you have an old link to Hapori Matatū bookmarked, follow this process to activate your My Rawa account.

  1. In Hapori Matatū, scroll down and select the tile named ‘Active Teachers’. This will open a login window.
  2. Select ‘Forgot your password
  3. Enter your email address, which is the email address you receive Teaching Council communications to. If you are unsure of what email to use, you can contact us at enquiries@teachingcouncil.nz.
  4. Once you have entered your email, a password reset link will be sent to your inbox. Your username is included in the reset email. Keep this handy - it’s essential for logging into the portal.
  5. Select the password reset link in your inbox.  
  6. This will open a new window where you are asked to enter a username and password. 
  7. Enter a new password. 
  8. Once you have set your password, go back to the website. Then, click 'My Login' in the top right-hand corner of the site to access the portal. This will open a login window where you can enter the username and new password that you just set. 
  9. Start using My Rawa. 

Forgot your password?

If you are a current teacher and need to set up a new password for My Rawa, you can follow the process below.

  1. Go to the Teaching Council website.
  2. Click 'My Login' in the top right-hand corner of the site to access the portal. This will open a login window.
  3. Select ‘Forgot your password?’.
  4. Enter your username, which is the email address you receive Teaching Council communications to. If you are unsure of what email to use, you can contact us at enquiries@teachingcouncil.nz.
