Renew as a learning support coordinator

If you're working as a Learning Support Coordinator (LSC), you can maintain a Tūturu | Full (Category One) Practising Certificate - even if your learners are mostly teacher colleagues rather than students or children.

Working as an LSC

The Teaching Council has reviewed the LSC role and confirmed that it aligns with the Standards for the Teaching Profession or Ngā Paerewa mō te Umanga Whakaakoranga (for Māori-medium settings). This means your work still meets the expectations for high-quality teaching practice.

English-medium settings

A Learning Support Coordinator Matrix is available to show how the LSC role aligns with the Standards. It includes examples from LSCs working in different settings. These examples are optional - they’re there to support your understanding, not to prescribe practice.

Māori-medium settings

The LSC role is also aligned with the Paerewa, although a matrix hasn’t been developed yet. You can use the Paerewa elaborations to help interpret how the Standards apply in your context. Like the English-medium examples, these are indicative only.

Professional Growth Cycle

All LSCs must take part in a Professional Growth Cycle (PGC). This supports ongoing learning and reflection.

The employing principal or tumuaki is responsible for endorsing the LSC’s practice each year, based on the Standards or Paerewa.
