Find out about the fees and levy you will need to pay for registration, certification, or renewal of practising certificate.

Fees and levy table

The fees and levy in Table one are covered by the government funding announced in Budget 2025.

The government announced on 28 April 2025 that fees and levy for practising certificates issued or expiring (and renewed) between 1 July 2025 and 30 June 2028 will be paid by the government. Hapori Matatū will automatically adjust the fees and levy that you will have to pay.

FAQs

Between 1 February 2021 and 11 July 2021, approximately 11,000 teachers were issued with a one-year practising certificate, paying a renewal or moving from one practising certificate type to another consistent with the May 2020 gazette notice (‘2020 fees’) of $157.00. After a judicial review decision in June 2021, those one-year practising certificates were extended to three years.

The Education and Training (Teaching Council Fees, Levies, and Costs) Amendment Act 2021 authorised the Teaching Council to treat ‘2020 fees’ as a part-payment towards the fee payable for a three-year practising certificate and to recover the part of the fee that has not yet been paid.

This means that teachers who were contacted may still owe an amount of $63.80 or $45.57.

This amount covers the difference from a one-year to a three-year certificate.

We want to give those affected the opportunity to pay this amount, so that it doesn’t hold up processing in future teacher applications. If you received an email from the Teaching Council, the link provided will take you through to make the payment on Paystation. If you have any questions about an outstanding amount, or how to make the payment (if you have received a letter by post), please contact us at fee-adjustment@teachingcouncil.nz
