Current snapshot
The Teaching Council receives updated information from registered teachers every three years at the time they renew their practising certificate. We rely on teachers providing updated and accurate information for the below data.
Individuals must be registered and hold a practising certificate or hold a Limited Authority to Teach (LAT) to be employed in a teaching position.
Since 2015, teacher registration doesn't expire and teachers are registered for life unless they choose to voluntarily deregister or a disciplinary body cancels their registration.
An individual can hold a LAT for one, two, or three years if they have a specialist skill, a skill in short supply, or are employed in a teaching role at a Charter School.
For any further information requests, please email information@teachingcouncil.nz.
