Ngā mihi mahana ki a koe 

Last year was surreal. Intertwined with the chaos and distress was resilience, kindness and togetherness. These past few months, I have found myself often thinking of the whakataukī “Kia whakatōmuri te haere whakamua” (I walk backwards into the future with my eyes fixed on the past).  

Although we don’t know what’s in store for us in 2021 and though we walk in somewhat blindly, we are heartened that the profession walks with strength and steadiness, bringing the experience and knowledge gained in 2020.  

I hope you can take time to enjoy and celebrate the smiling faces, the ‘a-ha!’ moments, the growth and discovery that awaits you and your learners this year.

New guidelines for endorsers 

The guidelines provide direction to professional leaders (principal of a school, senior leader of a kindergarten association, centre manager or owner of an early childhood centre, or senior staff member of a Tertiary Education Institution) about what they are responsible for when they endorse a teacher’s practising certificate. 

Professional leaders can also now delegate endorsement responsibilities to a senior staff member. 

This choice allows professional leaders to draw on the ability of other fully certificated senior staff while ensuring the integrity of the professional judgements used in the endorsement process.

New dates and times for webinars in February and March are available for registration.

During the live Zoom webinar the elements of the new Professional Growth Cycle will be discussed, plus building an understanding of the Standards | Ngā Paerewa across your setting and addressing the endorsement decision-making. There will be opportunities for you to ask questions.
