The passing of a respected academic and champion of te reo Māori

Taku manawa e kakapa nei

e kakapa ana ki te rā, ki ngā whetū

ki te marama…ka tau kai te rua!

Kātahi au ka kite i te hē

kātahi au ka kite i te mate.

Ko te Maunkura a Ngai Tūhoe tēnei

kua riro ki Paerau,

ki te huinga atu o te Kahurangi.

He uru ki aku kamo

he wai e māturu ana

he awa e māpuna mai ana.

Ā inā ia ka rere anō…e te Rangatira, moe mai rā.

Anei ētahi kupu poroporoaki mō Te Wharehuia - (he wāhanga nō tētahi tauparapara ka rangona whānuitia i Tūhoe, i Mataatua).
