Vetting requests for teachers will now be processed in the standard 20 working days or more following the expiration of our expedited vetting service agreement with Police.
We encourage you to please submit your application for renewal as soon as possible – and better yet, apply online for a quicker and easier application process!
Right now we send you a reminder to apply for renewal six months in advance. While this might seem like a long time away in peak times the Police vetting service could take up to four months to process a vet application.
If we do not obtain a police vet before your practising certificate expires we can issue an Extension to Teach on a case by case basis. This enables a teacher to be employed while their renewal application is being processed and we will use this to help avoid any negative impacts for schools and teachers cause by the vetting delay. However, this is not ideal for anyone, as it requires your professional leader to seek an extension and fill out extra paperwork.
Police vetting is part of the robust safety checking process we do when registering or renewing a teacher’s practising certificate. It’s one of the ways everyone can be confident about whether a person is of good character and fit to be working with children and young people.
We prioritise fast and efficient service for teachers and will be actively monitoring whether the longer processing time has undue delays for the teachers and manage those issues accordingly.
