Haratua | Mei | May

Kia ora koutou,

It’s May already which means we’re over a quarter of the way through the year. I hope you and your learners are doing well.

Last month we announced our proposed Strategic Plan and goals for the next five years and asked teachers for their feedback. It was heartening to receive so much of your feedback and engagement in wanting to shape and direct the profession, your profession! We’re now collating and analysing all your feedback before our Governing Council makes a final decision. We will share the new Strategic Plan with you as soon as we can.

As one consultation ends, another has just begun. The consultation on proposed changes to our current language competency policy to ensure speakers of Pacific languages, who want to become teachers, have their language and culture recognised and valued is now open. I encourage you to read more about the proposed changes in the article further down in this newsletter and have your say.

It’s starting to get colder outside, which is also a reminder that cold and flu season is coming. Remember to take good care of yourself and of each other! Until our next newsletter, stay warm and well.

Noho ora mai,

Lesley,
Tumu Whakarae | Chief Executive
